Hotmail Security Problems: Your Information Is Not Safe

Hotmail is one of the worst email service providers for serious business because it does not support SSL connections and the messages are not encrypted on the hard drives and there was a time that Microsoft said that you should not write anything on the email that you would not post on a wall. This means that all your messages are almost public. That’s awful for sensitive business where companies need to negotiate by email and need to send sensitive information such as credit card numbers and passwords by email.

Microsoft even says on MSN Messenger that you should not write

sensitive information there that you would not publish somewhere else.

What can happen if you use Hotmail for serious business?

1. Your money will disappear because a sniffer caught

your credit card number or internet banking password and used it to transfer money to a bank account on an island far away from your country’s jurisdiction.

2. Your sensitive business can be made public totally killing the profits.

3. Your secret business receipt can be made public ruining the idea.

Hotmail should be used only for fun and not serious business deals, such as forum registration, friendly public messages, etc. Without SSL encryption all your information is sent just like in a text file, totally open to all the computers used to transmit your message and that includes people who use free software that sniffs information easily.
